Cocaine bust in Waupaca

An alleged dealer faces 16 counts in a drug case.

Colt J. Buchanan, 23, Waupaca, is charged with four felony counts of delivery of cocaine, four felony counts of maintaining a drug trafficking place, five counts of misdemeanor bail jumping, and one count each of possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the criminal complaint, a police confidential informant (CI) purchased seven grams of cocaine from Buchanan for $550 at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 15. He made a second cocaine purchase for $700 shortly before 9 p.m. that same day.

On Friday, May 18, another $550 purchase was made.

The CI bought 14 grams of cocaine for $1,000 on Tuesday, May 24.

At 11:19 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, officers with the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office, the Waupaca Police Department and the Central Wisconsin Drug Task force executed a “no-knock” search warrant at Buchanan’s apartment.

A Portage County detective reported finding Buchanan in the bathroom, breaking his cell phone in half.

Officers also seized several pot pipes and 10 pieces of burnt aluminum foil with burnt residue that tested positive for cocaine.

As of June 6, Buchanan remains in custody on a $20,000 cash bond. He faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted of delivery of cocaine, as well as an additional five-year penalty enhancer because his apartment is located within 1,000 feet of Riverside Park in Waupaca.
