Felonious spitting

A Waupaca woman’s bus ride ended in arrest.

Julie A. Nollenberg, 61, Waupaca, is charged with two felony counts of discharging bodily fluids at an officer, one count of resisting an officer and one count of disorderly conduct.

At 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, Waupaca County Deputies Josh Krueger, Bill Zeamer and Nate Nelson responded to a complaint about an intoxicated woman on a bus fighting with another passenger.

While Nelson and Zeamer were removing Nolenberg from the bus, Krueger spoke with a 71-year-old man who had “significant fresh scratch marks on his face and arms,” according to the criminal complaint.

The man said he and Nollenberg were on their way back from a Milwaukee Brewers bus trip.

They had been affably sitting together until Nollenberg became irritable after drinking, the complaint says.

The man, who said they had been friends for more than 30 years, moved to a different seat.

He told Krueger that Nollenberg then accused him of stealing her purse.

The man walked back to the woman and told her that her purse was under her seat.

Nollenberg allegedly responded by hitting and scratching him.

The man then put Nollenberg down on the floor and held her there to stop her from hitting him, the complaint says.

The deputies then arranged for Nollenberg’s son to pick her up from the sheriff’s office.

When Krueger attempted to escort her to his squad car, Nollenberg reportedly resisted and spit on Zeamer’s face and on Nelson’s shirt.

Krueger handcuffed Nollenberg and the officers carried her to the squad car.

Released on June 29 on a $2,000 signature bond, Nollenberg is scheduled for an adjourned initial court appearance on July 17.
