‘Jump Up & Shout’ at Wautopia

Teens invited to perform

Area youth are invited to participate in Jump Up & Shout, a workshop that will culminate in a performance at Wautopia during Arts on the Square.

Wega Arts is sponsoring the free workshop and says youth ages 13 to 19 may be part of it.

Jump Up & Shout’s theme is voting.

The workshop is taking place from 10 a.m.to 3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13 through Friday, Aug. 17, at the Gerald Opera House, in Weyauwega.

It then includes a performance at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at Wautopia.

Those interested in being part of it may email [email protected] or call 920-867-4888.

The deadline is Wednesday, Aug. 8.

“We will do theater games and work together to develop a skit and a song. It will be filmed as a music video,” said Kathy Fehl, of Wega Arts.

The youth will learn those games and improvisation techniques with Cordis Heard of Second City & Jersey City Children’s Theater.

They will create a skit and a song with Cordis, along with musician Stanton West.

Carrie Gruman will be working on the choral part,

Fehl said youth who are slightly younger than 13 or a bit older than 19 may also contact Wega Arts to participate in the workshop.

Wautopia is this year’s community art project.

Groups and businesses from throughout the area built, painted and decorated pods to make up the two-story structure that will be assembled Saturday, Aug. 11, on Session Street, near the intersection of North Main Street, in downtown Waupaca.

Events are taking place inside Wautopia during the week leading up to Arts on the Square.

The workshop is partly being made possible by the Community Foundation Fox Valley.
