Two earthquakes near Iola

The U.S. Geological Survey confirmed reports of earthquakes approximately 7.5 miles north of Iola in northwest Waupaca County.

Waupaca County Emergency Management received reports last week of buildings shaking and rumbling noises from area residents.

The USGS identified that an earthquake occurred at 2:35 p.m. Saturday, July 7, with a magnitude of 1.3 at a depth of less than 5 kilometers.

A second earthquake was confirmed at 1:39 a.m. Sunday, July 15, with a magnitude of 1.5 at a depth of less than 5 kilometers.

Other reported earthquakes may have been too small to detect.

The USGS and Waupaca County Emergency Management will continue to investigate other reports in the area. There have been no reports of damage to structures.
