Mutterer, Eleanor ‘Hookstead’

Eleanor Rachel Martha ‘Hookstead’ Mutterer, age 90, of Waupaca, died August 20, 2018 at ThedaCare Medical Center in Waupaca, WI.

She was born April 9, 1928 to the late George and Helen (Kutz) Hookstead in Whitewater, WI. She graduated from DMLC in 1945 and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree at Dr. Martin Luther College in education and music. Eleanor was a Lutheran elementary school teacher and also served as organist at Immanuel Lutheran School in Mankato, MN; Trinity Lutheran School in Waukesha, WI; St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Prescott, WI; Salem Lutheran Church in Woodbury, MN; Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Ellsworth, WI; St. Andrew’s Lutheran School in St. Paul Park, MN; St. John’s Lutheran School in Fox Lake, WI; St. Matthew’s Lutheran School in Winona, MN; Buffalo Lutheran School in Cochrane, WI and Immanuel Lutheran School in Waupaca, WI. She married Frederick Mutterer on June 1, 1952 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Milton, WI. Eleanor will be long remembered for her friendly, outgoing personality. She loved to fish, play games, played the piano beautifully and was an excellent cook. She enjoyed corresponding with many family and friends who were happy to receive her beautifully written long letters. Above all, she loved her family.

In addition to her loving husband, Fritz, of 66 years, she is survived by her children, Timothy Mutterer of Racine, WI; Elizabeth (Thomas) Vershowske of Wales, WI; David (Lori) Mutterer of Arcadia, WI; grandchildren, Megan, Ben, Jon, Becca, Aaron, Carrie (Craig), Heather and Zach; and great-grandchildren, Cassidy, Aiden, Hazel, Joshua, and Elizabeth; and brother, Bernard (Beverly) Hookstead of Milton, WI. She was preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Ginny.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Divine Word Lutheran Church in Plover, WI with Rev. Scott Wolfram presiding. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will follow in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, D1720 Oxbo Rd. in Stratford, WI.
