Barn quilt made for Jorgens Park

Work donated by Waupaca artist

The old red barn at Jorgens Park Preserve in Scandinavia now has artwork.

Friends of Jorgens Park designed a barn quilt to tell the story of the original owners, Carsten and Dora Jorgens, whose 40-acre parcel on Silver Lake was donated to create the park.

Four themes in the quilt represent Jorgens’ interests in raising cows and chickens, growing flowers and the value they placed in their faith.

The collage-style quilt was donated by a Waupaca artist, Theresa Lannyk. Her work is displayed on hundreds of barns around the country.

The Scandinavia Library continues to monthly update the Story Book walk for children along the woodland trails. Again this year there are plans to offer a free hayride around the park in conjunction with Scandinavia Halloween trick or treat scheduled time.

A morning fun run will be held on Saturday, Sept 22. There will be the options for competing in the two-mile trail run, or walk/run a shorter course around the hay field.

This year the proceeds from this event will help pay for rebuilding the barn silo to complete the restoration work on the original barn.

Online registration for the run can be found on the Friends of Jorgens Park Facebook page or paper applications are available at the Iola-Scandinavia Fitness and Aquatic Center.
