Waupaca police report finding 30 images

Lucas M. Steele, 31, Waupaca, is charged with child sexual exploitation, possession of child pornography and felony possession of marijuana.

At 9:15 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 5, Waupaca Police Officer Dan Wasrud spoke with a woman who reported she found inappropriate photos of a young girl on a digital tablet that she shared with Steele.

The images had been deleted from the tablet’s memory, but remained on cloud storage.

Wasrud took custody of the tablet.

Investigators reported finding 30 images of prepubescent children nude or involved in explicit sex acts. Some were as young as 2 years old.

Sgt. Mario Graceffa took Steele into custody around 1 a.m. Monday, Aug. 6.

At the time, Marathon County had a warrant for Steele’s arrest because he failed to appear for a court hearing on charges of criminal trespass, theft and credit card fraud.

Steele is currently in Langlade County jail where he is being held for failure to pay a $358 fine for possession of drug paraphernalia.

He faces up to 40 years in prison if convicted of child sexual exploitation.
