Man charged with child abuse

A man facing child porn charges is now accused of child abuse.

Matthew A. Young, 37, New London, is charged with felony child abuse and felony bail jumping.

According to the criminal complaint, an 8-year-old boy reported to the school counselor on Oct. 4 that Young shoved a piece of bread into his mouth when he did not eat his dinner. He accused Young of hitting him.

When Detective Dennis Schroeder, with the New London Police Department, asked the boy’s mother how much force Young used on a scale of 1-10, she answered an 8, the complaint says.

In May, Young was charged with five felony counts of possession of child pornography, then released from custody after posting a $25,000 cash bond.

After the most recent felony charges, Young was released on a $2,500 cash bond with the condition that he have no contact with the boy.

If convicted of possession of child porn, Young could be sentenced to a maximum of 25 years in prison.

He could spend up to 3 1/2 years in prison if convicted of felony child abuse.
