Drug bust follows raid

Deputies reported finding meth, heroin, opioids, marijuana plants, psilocybin mushrooms and 12 guns in a home in rural Waupaca.

Mamie A. Nero, 39, is charged with delivery of heroin, delivery of methamphetamine, delivery of narcotics, delivery of schedule IV drugs, maintaining a drug house, possession of narcotics, possession of a controlled substance, illegal possession of prescription drugs and felon in possession of firearms.

She is currently in jail on a $50,000 cash bond.

Nero’s boyfriend, Ryan W. Thompson, 43, is charged with growing psilocybin mushrooms, growing marijuana, maintaining a drug house, and possession of a firearm silencer.

Thompson has been released from custody after posting a $2,500 cash bond.

According to the criminal complaint, Nero made three drug sales to a confidential informant working for the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office.

On July 18, she allegedly sold five suboxone tablets for $140 to the CI at her home on the E800 block of Mynard Drive in the town of Dayton.

On Sept. 19, the CI arranged to make a drug purchase, but when the CI arrived at Nero’s home, there were four other people waiting to buy drugs because she did not have enough on hand.

Nero allegedly contacted her source, who arrived with the heroin.

According to the criminal complaint, the source was Michael E. Ball, 38, Waupaca.

Ball is currently in custody on a $10,000 cash bond, following his arrest after a search warrant was served at his home on the 400 block of Bailey Street in Waupaca.

Nero allegedly sold 0.5 grams of meth and 0.4 grams of heroin to the CI for $300 on Sept. 19.

On Oct. 4, Nero allegedly sold 10 oxycontin pills to the CI for $95.

On Oct. 10, Waupaca County deputies and other officers executed a “no knock” search warrant at Nero and Thompson’s home.

In addition to narcotics and drug trafficking paraphernalia, officers reported finding several bags of dried mushrooms that they suspect are psilocybin. The mushrooms have been sent to the crime lab.

Officers seized 10 marijuana plants growing in pots and five harvested plants found on a tarp in the garage.

Twelve guns were found in the house, including a .22-caliber rifle with a homemade silencer.

Nero was previously convicted of possession of cocaine and felony bail jumping on Jan. 27, 2016.

If convicted, Nero faces up to 15 years in prison for delivery of narcotics, up to 12 1/2 years each for delivery of heroin and methamphetamine, and 10 years for felon in possession of a firearm.
