Lions receive matching grant

Initiative raises funds for cancer treatment

Lions around the world are undertaking a new core initiative with the start of their second century of service.

This initiative is battling childhood cancer.

The Lions in Wisconsin, with the help of a $100,000 matching grant from the Lions Club International Foundation, are planning on purchasing a “Flow Cytometer” and donating the medical device to Children’s Hospital and Medical College of Wisconsin.

Both are located in Milwaukee.

This device separates and modifies cells to become cancer destroying cells.

The treatment is to be used where non-traditional treatments will not work.

With a deadline of Nov. 11 looming, the total contributions toward the matching grant were around $70,000 on Oct. 8.
