Schmidt, Frances A.

Frances A. Schmidt, 67, of Oshkosh, Wisconsin died peacefully Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at the Heritage Hospice facility in Menasha after a short stint with liver cancer.

Born May 31, 1951 in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, Frances was the daughter of Donald and Joanne Campbell. Frances attended Clintonville High School, graduated in 1969. She attended Concordia College in Mequon, WI for two years and then completed her Bachelor’s degree at Concordia College in Seward, NE, graduated in 1973 and earned her Master’s in 1976.

On June 16, 1973, she was united in marriage to Karl William Schmidt from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Karl was a Lutheran principal/school teacher and Fran taught along with her husband for many years. Frances was employed as a Lutheran school teacher from January 1984 until her retirement in June 2009. She taught school at Immanuel Lutheran and formed many God centered relationships while in Whitmore, IA; Peoria, IL; Marshfield, WI; Omaha, NE; Richfield, MN and Elgin, IL. She loved what she did and felt honored to be touching lives for God’s Kingdom forever.

After retirement, Frances and Karl moved to the Appleton area to spend more time with their grandchildren. Following the passing of Karl to Heaven in 2012, Frances resided in Oshkosh the past five years where she was a volunteer, workout enthusiast, and card player extraordinaire. Frances and Karl enjoyed visiting all 50 states during their summers off as teachers. They also spent many memorable moments with their sons as well as other family and friends camping, dancing, touring this wonderful country, playing card marathons, or watching the Packers play. Her all-time favorite activity, however, involved serving God with her hands and voice whether it is done in a church, school, or at a game table.

Frances is survived by her two sons, Jason Arthur (Christine) Schmidt and their sons, Noah James and Zachary William, Appleton, and Andrew Donald Schmidt and his daughter, Sydney Anne, Appleton. She is further survived by six brothers and sisters: Nancy Verhey, Sheboygan; Craig Campbell, Appleton; Elizabeth Wollenberg, Oshkosh; Susan (Chris) Ebbers, San Diego, CA; Michael (Laura) Campbell, Minneapolis, MN; Timothy (Michele) Campbell, New Market, MD. She is preceded in death by her father Donald Campbell, mother Joanne Campbell, brother Bruce (Jean) Campbell and beloved husband, Karl William Schmidt.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 17, 2018 at Living Water Lutheran Church, 1585 S. Oakwood Rd., Oshkosh, WI with the Pastor John Dorn officiating.
