Gordon C. Van Ornum, age 70, of Fremont, passed away unexpectedly at his cottage in Land O’Lakes, WI.
He was born on August 29, 1948, in New London, WI the son of the late Gordon and Alma (Barkow) Van Ornum. In 1966 Gordy graduated from Clintonville High School. He then enlisted in the US Air Force where he served until 1972. Following his service, he worked at Presto Products in Weyauwega as a plant engineer before retiring in 2009. On June 13, 1988, Gordy married Joan Abraham in Durand, WI. Together they enjoyed traveling throughout the Midwest. Gordy loved to be outside, he enjoyed biking, kayaking, and spending time at the cottage. He also enjoyed spending time at the casinos in the area. Gordy also had a special place in his heart for dachshunds, owning several throughout his life.
Gordy is survived by his wife, Joan; his sister, Barbara (Dale) Manteufel, Hortonville; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Mary (Eugene) Snyder, New London; James (Susan) Abraham, Weyauwega; Joyce Abraham and her dog, Roxie, Weyauwega; and Bill (Sandy) Abraham, Waupaca; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Armin Kortbein; his in-laws, Robert and Elaine Abraham, and a niece, Susan Snyder.
Funeral services followed by military rites, will be held on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. at the Lewin Funeral Home, Fremont. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service. A memorial fund has been established.
