I-S wins hoops opener

 

T-Birds score 77 points

The Iola-Scandinavia boys’ basketball team opened its season with a 55-point win.

The Thunderbirds handed Westfield a 77-22 loss Nov. 27 in the season opener for both teams.

Connor Kurki scored nine of his 17 points in the first half as the T-Birds took a 30-13 lead into the locker room.

It didn’t get any better for the Pioneers in the second half, as they were outscored 47-9.

Charlie Stockwell and Justin Sivertson scored 14 and 13 points, respectively, in the second half.

Sivertson led all scorers with 19 points, while Stockwell finished with 18 and Kurki added 17.

Kurki also pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds.

Kaden Roberts led Westfield with five points.

The T-Birds will play at Manawa Friday, Nov. 30, and will travel to Antigo Tueday, Dec. 4. Tipoff for both games is set for 7:30 p.m.
