City hires full-time officer

Boerst focuses on community safety

The city of Manawa hired Katie Boerst as a full-time police officer.

“Moving from a part-time position to a full-time position at the department will allow me more time to focus on community policing, crime prevention and providing thorough criminal investigations,” she said. “I will also be able to hopefully take on more responsibility in the department itself.”

Receiving her bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, she later attended the Police Recruit Academy at Fox Valley Technical College.

“I chose a career in law enforcement because it’s been my passion since I can remember,” Boerst said. “I have always wanted to help people. I’ve worked since high school to make this dream job a reality.”

She thinks Manawa is a great place to live, work and raise a family.

“I want to do my part to keep the city that way,” Boerst said. “I enjoy working for a small city, so that I can build good working relationships with the public and get to know the people.”

She said the hardest part of her job is trying to change people’s negative perceptions of police officers.

“While there are bad apples in this profession, there are some in every group,” she said.

“Being a police officer is a profession,” she said. “It means conducting yourself with integrity at all times. Educating the public, supporting the community while still upholding the law and most importantly, affording each person the dignity and respect any person deserves.”

Boerst has extensive training and experience in drug investigation, technology facilitated crimes and sensitive crimes.

“My goal is to ensure the safety and security in the community,” she said.

Originally from the New London area, Boerst enjoys crafting and spending time with her family.

“Traveling is my passion as I love to explore and experience new cultures and places,” she said. “I recently was married and am loving the new adventure of it.”

She is looking forward to meeting more people in the community and to being a reliable go-to officer for people in need.

“I’ve enjoyed my time on the department so far and look forward to the many years to come,” she said.
