Waupaca off until Jan. 3

A cold day of shooting hurt the Waupaca girls’ basketball team in a 31-20 loss to Marinette Dec. 15.

Marinette trailed 7-2 in the first half, but closed the half with a 14-2 run to take a 16-9 lead at the break.

Five straight points from Savannah Wehmeyer cut the Marines’ lead to 21-14, but that was as close as Waupaca would get.

Waupaca made only seven of 56 shots, including two of 24 three-point attempts. The Marines didn’t shoot much better, as they hit on 12 of 58 shots.

Seattle Lettau, Brenna Barlow and Wehmeyer led Waupaca with five points each, while Marinette’s Madylinn Sims led all scorers with 12.

The Comets hosted Clintonville Dec. 18 and are off until they host Denmark Thursday, Jan. 3.
