Entries sought for annual Mid-Winter Art Show

Event returns Feb. 9-10

By Lori Schneider

Members of the Wolf River Art League extend an open invitation for artists to enter works of art to be displayed at the Mid-Winter Art Show.

The Wolf River Art League’s 49th annual show will take place Feb. 9-10 at Crystal Falls Banquet Facility, 1500 Handschke Drive, New London. The show is open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days.

Professional, non-professional and student artists may request an entry form and information by emailing [email protected] or calling 920-982-0168. Provide your mailing information in a message.

Forms are also available at the New London Area Chamber of Commerce office, 420 N. Shawano St. Entry forms are due Feb. 1.

Professional artist and writer Kathleen M. Heideman is the 2019 art show judge.

A New London native, Heideman resides in Michigan’s wild Upper Peninsula. Her work investigates landscape, scientific research and environmental concerns.

Heideman completed artist residencies with experimental scientific research stations, watersheds, private foundations, the National Science Foundation (Antarctica) and the National Park Service — Apostle Islands, Isle Royale, Voyageurs, Badlands and elsewhere.

The show consists of 2-D, 3-D and photography categories. Cash and ribbon prizes are awarded Saturday morning following the judging. Heideman will critique winning pieces and is available to critique artists’ work until noon.

As in the past, vendors offer skillfully made gift items to purchase during this pre-Valentine’s Day event. Fine artisans are on hand to demonstrate unique skills like glass fusing, glass blowing, fiber art techniques and wood carving.

Crystal Falls is found off U.S. Highway 45 near the State Highway 54 interchange. Participants will experience live piano music throughout the show, new vendors and artisans, a menu prepared by Crystal Falls staff and a fundraising bake sale.

Wolf River Art League members appreciate the arts, provide art opportunities in the community, enjoy mentoring and raise money for yearly student art scholarships.
