Man faces felony OWI

An alleged drunk driver released on a signature bond was back in jail a week later.

Joseph D. Borowski, 31, New London, was charged on Jan. 14 with a fourth offense of operating while intoxicated, operating after revocation and felony bail jumping.

At 1:50 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, Waupaca County Deputy Curtis Much pulled over a vehicle on West Jennings Street in New London because it failed to stop at a stop sign.

Much reported the driver, identified as Borowski, smelled like alcohol.

According to the criminal complaint, Borowski refused to perform field sobriety tests because he said he had medical problems with his eyes.

Borowski reportedly made suicidal comments and accused Much of ruining his life while he was being transported to the hospital for a blood draw.

On Jan. 7, Borowski was released from custody on a $3,000 signature bond prior to prosecutors filing charges.

Conditions of his bond included that he maintain absolute sobriety and comply with Soberlink, the jail’s online alcohol monitoring system.

On Jan. 12, Soberlink alerted that Borowski tested positive at .05 blood-alcohol content at 9:02 p.m. and at .028 BAC at 9:37 p.m.

He was charged with felony bail jumping on Jan. 14.

Borowski posted a $2,000 cash bond and was released from jail under the same conditions on Jan. 16.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 29.
