WHS dance team heads to state

Competition set for Feb. 2 in La Crosse

A pair of regional championships means Waupaca High School’s dance team is heading back to state.

The team won Division 2 Jazz and Division 3 Pom titles Jan. 26 at a regional competition at Kimberly High School and will compete Saturday, Feb. 2, at the Wisconsin Association of Cheer/Pom Coaches State Dance Championships in La Crosse.

The team, which has won 12 state championships since 2008, is scheduled to perform its Pom routine at 12:44 p.m. and its Jazz routine at 2:16 p.m. at the La Crosse Center.

Amy Marcom coaches the team, which won Jazz and Pom state championships in 2010, 2013, 2014 and 2015; Jazz championships in 2008, 2009 and 2018; and a Pom championship in 2016.

The 2018-19 team includes seniors Eryn Butzin, Madie Gile, Alli Hansen, Shyla Koshollek and Kalista Revai; juniors Makayla Neely, Alissa Reetz, Gabrielle Sullivan and Maggie Trazzi; sophomores Alayna Abhold, Erica Byers, Bailee Chelberg, Mayson Hoepner, Ellia Hollman, Faith Koch, Hope Koch, Addie Melk, Makiya Wanty, Sarah Zelinske and manager Makenzie Koehl; and freshmen Madeline Hollman, Chloe Marcom, Mathena Neely, Terry Schneider and Grace Wanty.
