Center seeks blood donations on Valentine’s Day

The Community Blood Center will host a blood drive on Thursday, Feb. 14 from 8 to 11:30 a.m. at the New London Industrial Loop blood mobile, 738 Industrial Loop Road.

The extreme cold and snow in recent weeks has had an impact on the local blood supply. Numerous blood drives were cancelled across the state during the deep freeze, which resulted in a loss of hundreds of blood donations.

“I’ve never seen it this bad. Our numbers went down to about half of what they normally are,” said Kristine Belanger, vice president for donor services at The Community Blood Center. “There is no replacement for blood. It has to be given as a gift to someone, by someone else, that’s why these blood drives are so important. We really appreciate the generosity within the community from those who come out and donate. There’s no better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day than to give the gift of life.”

For anyone who cannot donate Thursday morning but wishes to help CBC replenish its winter blood supply, the center also has walk-in donation locations in Appleton, Oshkosh, Little Chute and Woodruff. For more information, visit the CBC website or call (800) 280-4102
