Madsen, Grant M.

I was given the gift of life, and now I have to give it back. This is hard, but I was a lucky man. I loved life!

With deepest sorrow, we announce that Grant Michael Madsen, 17, our most beloved son, brother, family member and friend passed suddenly on Sunday, February 10, 2019 in a car accident.

Those who knew Grant, even just a little, lost a shining light in their lives. Heaven just got a little brighter. Grant’s smile would light up any room. Grant was a junior at New London High School. He was committed to his education; having a GPA over 4.0. Grant loved playing soccer, basketball, and golf during his high school years. He also enjoyed baseball, football, and skiing. He was involved in several school activities, among them DECA, Math League, National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, Student Council, HOSA and TSA. Grant was also an usher at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, where he was preparing to receive the sacrament of confirmation. During his high school years, he has also accumulated 150 community service hours. Grant enjoyed reffing youth basketball tournaments and working at General Beverage. But what he enjoyed most was being with his friends and having fun. And his Xbox! He was quick to help others and quick to laugh! He loved having fun!

Grant will be sadly missed by his parents, Mike and Margie, his two sisters, Macy, UW Madison and Ellie, Brown University; paternal grandparents, Marge and Alan Johnson and Dave and Lori Madsen, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Grant was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, John and Dorothy Herink and Uncle Jeff Herink. Grant, please continue to give Grandpa a hard time for being a Vikings fan, make sure Grandma shares her licorice with you, and meet Uncle Jeff-you will love him!

Grant was the kind of young man that made us proud to call him son, brother, grandson, and friend.

Funeral mass for Grant will be held on Friday, February 15, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, New London with Fr. John Kleinschmidt officiating. Visitation will be held at the Cline & Hanson Funeral Home on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. and also at the church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of mass. The Cline & Hanson Funeral Home in New London is serving the family. www.clinehansonfuneralhome.com
