Auditions set for ‘Willy Wonka’

The Waupaca Community Theatre will hold auditions for its summer musical from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 23, at the Waupaca High School Performing Arts Center.

Those auditioning should prepare a short musical theatre song.

Rehearsals will take place Monday through Thursday evenings during June and July.

Performance dates are July 27 and 28 and Aug. 1-4.

This year’s production will be Roald Dahl’s “Willy Wonka.”

The story follows Charlie Bucket who is one of five children to find a golden ticket inside a candy bar and win a tour of Willy Wonka’s magical candy factory.

The production combines elements of both Roald Dahl’s book “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and the 1971 movie “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” along with newly created material.

The musical features the songs “Pure Imagination,” “I’ve Got A Golden Ticket,” “I Want It Now,” “Cheer Up Charlie,” “Oompa-Loompa” and “The Candy Man” from the 1971 film starring Gene Wilder as well as several new songs.

Tamara Jacquet will direct the show and Jessica (Fletcher) Hauser will be the assistant director.

Roles include Willy Wonka, The Candy Man, Charlie Bucket, Mr. and Mrs. Bucket, Grandpa Joe and Grandma Josephine, Grandpa George and Grandma Georgina, Augustus and Mrs. Gloop, Veruca and Mr. Salt, Mike and Mrs. Teevee, Violet and Mrs. Beauregarde, James, Matilda, Sophie, Danny, Alfie, Billie, Phineous Trout, Oompa-Loompas, Squirrels and Townspeople of all ages.

The Waupaca Community Theatre is a division of the Waupaca Fine Arts Festival.
