Scandinavia gets rescue unit

Vehicle purchased through fundraisers

By Holly Neumann

The Scandinavia Fire Department has acquired a 1991 rescue unit from the Clintonville Fire Department.

“The unit was purchased by the town of Scandinavia, village of Scandinavia and the Scandinavia Fire Department fundraisers,” said Fire Chief Bryan Fuhs. “We were able to purchase this unit for $35,000. The repair costs and noncompliant DOT issues with the old rescue unit drove us to replace it with this unit. The repair cost outweighed the value of the old truck.”

Fuhs said the replacement unit has 10,000 miles on it and will better serve the community for many years.

The new truck features an on-board diesel generator, walk-in body and is capable of storing equipment, air bottles and ice rescue equipment. It has 4-DOT/NFPA compliant jump seats and can also be utilized as a command post.

The unit will go in to service on March 19.
