Felony charge follows traffic stop

Suspect remains in custody

Christopher L. Immel, 36, New London is charged with operating with a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He remains in custody on a $5,000 cash bond.

Shortly after 10:30 p.m. Saturday, March 16, Marion Police Officer Eric Krause stopped a white sedan with a broken taillight on State Highway 110.

As the driver, identified as Immel, rolled down the window, Krause smelled the aroma of marijuana. Krause told Immel to step out of the vehicle.

Krause then told Immel he could run his K9 partner around the vehicle or Immel could tell him where the marijuana was.

According to the criminal complaint, Immel gave Krause a plastic container with marijuana in it.

Immel has six prior drinking and driving convictions dating from December 2004 to January 2011.

He faces up to 12 years and six months in prison if convicted.
