Grand opening set for March 22
By Holly Neumann
DJ’s Fresh Market, owned and operated by Don Spoehr, will hold a grand opening at 10 a.m. Friday, March 22, at 1161 Depot St., in Manawa.
“I run a 300-acre farm in the Hortonville and Black Creek area,” said Spoehr. “I was doing eight farmers markets a week, two road-side stands in the Fox Valley, while selling to several schools and hospitals in the state. I also supply produce to Festival Foods in the Appleton area. I started this store because I wanted a location year round.”
Spoehr said the family business started in 2005.
By 2009, they moved to selling produce, working 144 acres of land.
In 2015, they expanded to planting and harvesting 300 acres of produce.
Now he is expanding to Manawa.
“It’s important to serve the customers what they’re looking for,” he said.
All produce, including such things as spinach, lettuce, mushrooms, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and sprouts, are grown in greenhouses and are organic.
His top sellers are his sweet corn and honey crisp apples.
Some of the specialty items include organic maple syrup and honey.
Each Friday and Saturday, DJ’s Fresh Market will have fresh cheese curds and string cheese. On Saturdays only, fry pies will be sold.
“Fry pies are like a turnover but the crust is pie crust and they are deep fried and glazed,” Spoehr said. “This is a secret recipe of a really good friend of mine that been in the bakery business for over 35 years.”
DJ’s Fresh Market will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily until Memorial Day.
After Memorial Day, it will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.
