Classes resume Tuesday

A fire broke out at Weyauwega-Fremont Middle School shortly before 5 p.m. Monday, March 25.

W-F District Administrator Scott Bleck directed firefighters to two restrooms where they found heavy black smoke.

They extinguished the fire quickly. Nobody was reported injured.

“It took a couple hours to systematically ventilate the entire middle school,” according to Weyauwega Fire Chief Tom Cullen. “The smoke damage was contained to mostly two bathrooms and one closet.”

A restoration company was in the middle school on Monday evening, and all classes and activities will run as scheduled on Tuesday.

Cullen said Weyauwega and Manawa firefighters responded directly from a house fire in Manawa when the middle school fire was reported.

Due to the thick smoke when they arrived, Weyauwega called for assistance from Waupaca, Poy Sippi, New London, Saxeville, West Bloomfield and Iola.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
