Pancake brunch in Manawa

Proceeds benefit fire department

By Holly Neumann

The Manawa Rural Fire Department will hold A pancake brunch, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, April 7, at the fire station, 500 S. Bridge St.

Assistant Fire Chief Josh Smith said this event is fun for everyone.

“It gives the members of Manawa Rural Fire Department (MRFD) a chance to serve a great meal to the people who continually support us,” said Smith. “It also gives everyone a chance to get out of the house after being cooped up all winter long, with hopefully the majority of the snow gone by the date of the event and much warmer temps outside.”

The brunch will offer blueberry, potato and buttermilk pancakes. Sausage, ham, scrambled eggs, toast, salads and desserts will also be available.

“There will also be a new menu item that will be served at the event, but it is a surprise that people will have to come and see for themselves,” said Smith.

Cost of attending this event is $8 for adults, $3 for children 6-11, and free for children 5 and under.

New this year, the serving and seating area will be on the apparatus floor, allowing for quicker lines and quicker seating.

Funds raised are used to keep updating the equipment to keep up with current standards.

“Past purchases have been a UTV, safety vests, and most recently 20 pairs of structural firefighting boots,” said Smith.

Firefighters will also be available to answer questions about home safety, fire safety, fire extinguishers, carbon monoxide detectors and more.
