Police name suspect in 2018 overdose death

New London police named the man who was arrested this week and suspected of involvement in a 2018 drug overdose.

Eric D. Stern, 37, New London, was arrested Wednesday, March 27, and referred to the Waupaca County District Attorney’s Office for a first-degree reckless homicide charge.

He is expected to be charged this afternoon, according to New London Police Chief Jeff Schlueter.

Shane Heuer, 26, New London, died at his home Oct. 5, 2018, as the result of an opioid overdose.

Schlueter declined to release further information citing an ongoing investigation.

According to court records, Stern was convicted of felony burglary in 1999 and in 2002 in Waupaca County.

He was ordered to serve three years’ probation in 1999.

In 2002, he was sentenced to two years in prison and four years of extended supervision.
