Indians fall to Chiefs

Softball teams meet in Weyauwega

Shiocton handed Weyauwega-Fremont a 4-1 loss April 4 in the Central Wisconsin Conference East Division softball opener for both teams.

The Chiefs scored two runs in the top of the first inning in Weyauwega and added single runs in the third and fifth.

Weyauwega-Fremont came up with its run in the fifth, as Julia Rice scored to cut the lead to three.

Rice had the Indians’ only hit in the game and she also stole three bases. Hailey Wheaton also stole two bases.

Erica Gassner had two of the Chiefs’ five hits and also scored a pair of runs, while winning pitcher Cassidy Defferding struck out 13 batters and drove in a pair of runs.

Ashley Johnson went the distance for the Indians and finished with five strikeouts.
