Suspect charged with terrorist threats

Judge orders competency hearing

Tyler M. Rohde, 25, Waupaca, is charged with making terrorist threats, threatening injury with computer messages and disorderly conduct.

According to the criminal complaint, Rohde went to the Waupaca County Department of Health and Human Services to see a psychiatrist on Thursday, March 28.

Previously, Rohde had been seeing a female therapist.

When the psychiatrist made reference to some of the therapist’s case notes, Rohde became angry because he thought the therapist had violated his confidentiality rights.

Rohde allegedly began yelling profanities, then left.

Beginning at 7:44 a.m. Friday, March 29. Rohde sent the first of nine emails to the therapist.

He allegedly sent 18 text messages to another DHHS staff member, threatening a rampage on the second floor of the courthouse where the department is located.

Judge Raymond Huber granted an injunction against Rohde, prohibiting him from having contact with the DHHS workers.

DHHS staff informed police that Rohde may have weapons and that he had made statements in the past about suicide by cop.

When officers went to Rohde’s home, they reported finding two 12-gauge shotguns in his bedroom.

Rohde told Waupaca Police Officer Sam Van Dinter he wanted the officers to escort him to the courthouse and make the therapist learn her lesson, the complaint says.

He also reportedly said he would do whatever he had to do to cause the SWAT team to go to the courthouse.

Rohde is currently in custody on a $1,000 cash bond.

Judge Troy Nielsen ordered a competency examination and scheduled a competency hearing on May 9.
