Suspect charged with battery

A teen who did not want to go to church went to jail instead.

Trayveion K. Lester, 17, Weyauwega, is charged with felony strangulation, misdemeanor battery, disorderly conduct and criminal damage to property.

He is being held in custody on a $2,000 cash bond with the condition that he have no contact with the victim and not go on the premises where he lived.

Lester currently has no other place to live. If an alternative is found, Judge Troy Nielsen said the court must be notified immediately.

On March 31, Weyauwega Police Sgt. Brandon Leschke responded to a domestic complaint on the 400 block of High Street.

According to the criminal complaint, Lester became angry after he was told he needed to go to church.

He said he could decide for himself whether he should go to church because he turned 17 years old about two weeks earlier and did not believe in God.

Lester allegedly put his stepfather in a chokehold until his skin started to turn blue, screamed and yelled threats at the other family members and punched a hole in the wall.

He faces up to six years in prison if convicted of strangulation.
