Newly built stores in both communities

Two newly built Dollar General stores opened in Hortonville and New London.

Hortonville gained its first big-box dollar store with Dollar General built as the anchor tenant of the new East Village at Steinert Plaza strip mall.

Located at 315 E. Main St. next to Gilbert’s Sentry Foods, Hortonville’s Dollar General held its grand opening on March 23, according to company spokeswoman Angela Petkovic.

So far the 7,300-square foot Dollar General store is the strip mall’s only occupant.

Hortonville Village Administrator David DeTroye said two other tenants are confirmed to be joining the store on May 1: an Edward Jones office and Surge Nutrition and Fit Club.

Meanwhile, New London’s Dollar General vacated its location at 105 Henry St. for a new store constructed a half-mile down the road at 801 N. Shawano St., on the former In Motion Automotive property next to Bucky’s Restaurant.

The grand opening occurred Saturday, April 6.

New London’s store is around 9,100 square feet and similar in size to the old one, Todd Platt, one of the developers behind the project, told the Press Star last summer.

New London’s Dollar General rented its previous space since the building was constructed in 2004. The business considered building a new store in downtown New London in 2013 but accidentally renewed its five-year lease.

New London’s location offers on-trend home decor and an updated party preparation selection in addition to traditional Dollar General inventory, Petkovic said.
