Clintonville’s police station in good shape

Few items need improvement, facility study says

By Bert Lehman

A facilities study concluded the Clintonville Police Department building is in “good condition.”

According to the facilities study, conducted by Barrientos Design & Consulting of Milwaukee, the police department was renovated in 2012 and has only a few items that should be addressed to improve the facility.

“The necessary repairs should be made to [ensure] that the facility continues operating in an effective manner for years to come,” the facilities study states.

One issue mentioned concerns the building being properly insulated by the new windows. There is also a cold draft in the office area when the overhead doors are lifted.

Another issue is the work surface countertops are not at heights accessible to wheelchairs. There is not space to add countertops that would be.

The building also lacks storage space, according to the study.

The estimated cost to fix the “critical” items at the Clintonville Police Department is $123,200.

Items that should be repaired amount to an estimated $37,000.

Problem areas that should be fixed within the next year or two amount to about $84,200, while problem areas that should be fixed within the next five to 10 years amounts to approximately $66,300.

Studies of other city facilities conducted by Barrientos Design & Consulting have been more critical. The firm recommended major improvements or new facilities altogether for the W.A. Olen Park grandstands, the public works garage and the fire station.
