New London dentistry takes on a new name

Practice plans for Lawton’s eventual retirement

By Scott Bellile

The practice formerly known as Lawton Family Dentistry is now New London Family Dental.

Located at 105 Northridge Drive, the business rebranded with a name change and new logo on Jan. 1.

The reason, according to office manager Kayla Thorpe, is to prepare for Dr. Michael Lawton’s eventual retirement. He has not set a date, but the business will seek new ownership soon.

“We thought doing it in small increments, just because Dr. Lawton has been here for so long, would be good for our patients,” Thorpe said of the transition.

The new name emphasizes that the dentistry serves people of all ages, she said.

The same staff remains on board and little has changed besides the name and the website’s URL, which is now newlondonfamilydental.com.

Lawton graduated from New London High School in 1972 and from dental school in 1980. He joined his father, Dr. James Lawton, at the dental practice in 1981 and took over after he retired.

The dentistry has been located on Northridge Drive since moving there from North Pearl Street in the 1990s.
