Waupaca mother arrested

Felony charges filed in child custody case

Pankow

A woman accused of taking two children out of state without their fathers’ permission was arrested in North Dakota.

Jaydin D. Pankow, 37, Waupaca, is charged with two felony counts of interfering with child custody.

The children are ages 9 and 4. The fathers of the children called police after they were unable to make contact with their children when it was time for them to have custody.

One father reported his 9-year-old daughter had not gone to school on Friday, May 3, and he believed Pankow may have taken her to Florida.

According to the criminal complaint, Pankow’s mother told Waupaca Police Officer Brent Wittman that Pankow has mental health issues and was released from a facility in Neenah on April 17.

The mother said Pankow had just called her and said she was lost and did not know where she was.

Wittman pinged Pankow’s cellphone and located her near Sioux Falls, South Dakota, around 8:03 p.m. Friday, May 3.

Waupaca police notified authorities in surrounding states.

District Attorney Veronica Isherwood drafted a warrant for Pankow’s arrest that Judge Raymond Huber authorized.

Waupaca Police Capt. John Helgeson told the Waupaca County Post that North Dakota Highway Patrol officers arrested Pankow near Fargo, North Dakota.

She is currently in Cass County jail in North Dakota awaiting extradition.

The children are in protective custody with Cass County Health and Human Services.

“The kids are fine,” Helgeson said.

Pankow faces up to 12 1/2 years in prison on each count if convicted.
