Grant recipients announced

Parfreyville UMC grants benefit youth programs

Parfreyville United Methodist Church (PUMC) announced the 2019 recipients of its Children and Youth Grant Program.

Big Brothers Big Sisters: Awarded $1,000 to fund recreational, social competency, educational, life skills, arts and culture, health and wellness activities for Waupaca participants and their families. The goal is to increase match engagement and activities that build stronger relationships for successful mentoring.

Waupaca School District Good Samaritan Program: Awarded $1,000 to fund a variety of items and expenses for immediate needs of homeless and impoverished students in Waupaca’s schools. The goal is to remove barriers to learning and nurture youth to graduate as successful and caring members of the community.

The Simple Things (Waupaca County Department of Health and Human Services): Awarded $1,000 to provide supplies for at-risk families that have no other funding for basic needs and supplies. The goal is to support family learning, togetherness, goal setting and accomplishment.

All Things Comfy (Creative Caring Hearts): Awarded $500 to fund fabric and supplies used for making layettes of homemade items given to local babies in need of assistance. The goal is to enhance a happy start for babies while taking some financial and emotional stress from new parents.

Waupaca County Conservation Field Day: Awarded $500 to support a full day of outdoor workshops run by volunteers for fifth graders at Hartman Creek State Park with the goal of instilling a conservation ethic. The event is organized by Golden Sands Research Conservation and Development Council, a non-profit organization that has been hosting this event at no charge since 1990.

Project Backpack: Awarded $500 to provide nutritious food and snacks for children of families struggling to provide adequate food on weekends when youths do not have access to free and reduced priced meals. The program targets children in 13 different schools throughout Waupaca County and operates with volunteer labor and community donations.

Supporting School Success (Mission of Hope House): Awarded $500 to fund items homeless children need. The goal is to support a more stable life, improve school attendance and academic performance, and promote education as a route out of poverty.
