New twist for Lind shooting

Woman accused of conspiracy against shooting victim

The young woman at the center of the Lind shooting now faces her own felony charge.

StarrAnn G. Stocks. 18, Waupaca, is charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree reckless injury as party to a crime.

Investigators say Stocks’ original account of what transpired during the shooting incident contradicted the evidence.

On March 17, Jordan S. May, 31, Lind, allegedly shot Jason Toutant, 31, of Janesville, in the foot.

Toutant came from Janesville to Waupaca to meet Stocks.

When he arrived at May’s home on Bags Hill Road, Toutant encountered May at the front door.

May was holding a gun, an argument ensued, and May allegedly fired two shots.

The first shot hit the ground. The second shot hit Toutant in the foot.

Toutant told investigators he hoped to marry Stocks and did not know if she was OK or was being held hostage when he arrived.

Toutant reportedly said he refused to leave the porch until he saw Stocks.

According to the criminal complaint against Stocks, she communicated with Toutant on March 16 and arranged for him to meet her in Waupaca.

On March 17, Toutant sent a text to Stocks, indicating he was on his way.

Stocks then left May’s house with a third man. She also allegedly told May that Toutant was coming to Waupaca.

Stocks allegedly listened to police communications on a cellphone scanner app after officers responded to the 911 call.

If convicted, Stocks faces up to 25 years in prison.

Stocks is currently in jail on a probation hold.

On Feb. 11, Judge Raymond Huber placed her on one year of probation. She was convicted of misdemeanor bail jumping and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Stocks is scheduled for a revocation hearing on June 25.

On Aug. 8, 2017, Stocks was charged with with escaping civil arrest, battery to an officer as party to a crime and resisting an officer.

While deputies were struggling to take Stocks into custody on Aug. 7, Michael Call, 24, punched Waupaca County Sgt. Scott Lewis in the back of his head.

Lewis was hospitalized and later required ongoing therapy.

Call, who was convicted of battery to an officer and resisting an officer, was sentenced to three years in prison.

Charges against Stocks related to the Aug. 7 incident were later dismissed.
