MANAWA – A before and after school program is being developed in the Manawa School District for the upcoming school year to provide a place to help support students and parents in the community.
Ryan Peterson, the district administrator in Manawa, said the details are still being ironed out, but the program will be a go for this year.
The program is called Promoting Unlimited Personal Success (P.U.P.S.).
“The P.U.P.S. program will provide a safe place for students, before and after school,” This gives greater flexibility and peace of mind for working parents; knowing their children are in a safe and supportive environment.”
Peterson said at a recent school board meeting that the ongoing planning discussions in the district have also touched on the need for a 4K wraparound program.
Currently 4K students go for only half a day, leaving parents having to look for care for the remainder of the day.
Peterson said within the planning meetings they have compared local programs within and outside of Manawa to get an idea of pricing and hours of operation, and the finalization of details will happen in the next few weeks.
Peterson said a mailer has been sent to those in the Manawa School District and it has been met with interest throughout the community with parents wanting more information on the program.
Peterson said there will be a registration plan available for families as well as an informational meeting coming up in August when they get closer to the school year.
Peterson said he does not remember the last time a before and after school program was offered in the district, however the response so far has been great.
“The School District of Manawa is excited about the opportunity to better support students and working families across our communities,” Peterson said.
