Comet’s Soccer yield state hopes in OT

The Waupaca Comets run to state came up just short as their season was ended by the West Salem Panthers in the sectional final on Saturday June 14 in Medford.

The Comets took down Ashland on June 12 to get themselves to the sectional finals, and were mere moments away from heading to the WIAA State Girls Soccer tournament in Milwaukee.

Waupaca took a 1-0 lead and held on to it until the 78th minute, before West Salem tied the match and sent it to overtime.

With one second left in the first half of overtime, West Salem sealed both their own, and Waupaca’s fate as they scored the walk-off goal to send them to state.
