Electronic repair shop fills niche

Grand opening on Aug. 29

STEVENS POINT - Point Electronics, LLC is the recently-opened local destination to have electronics of any kind repaired. Lenny Micheloni, lead technician and owner of Point Electronics, is passionate about his repair work.
Since their opening on July 3, Micheloni has seen a high demand for his services in this area. “There aren’t very many places anymore that service items in general, but especially the older stuff. It’s a niche thing,” said Micheloni. “There are many people who come from afar to have things serviced, because there’s nobody else around.”
Micheloni, who worked previously as the lead technician at Gaming Generations, has built up over a decade of experience in electronics repairs. “When I worked at Gaming Generations, I did that for 10 hours a day, and then when I went home, I’d work for another 6 or 7 hours on two-way equipment until 2:00 or 3:00 am,” said Micheloni. “People would send stuff in from all over the place. So I decided to focus on that rather than pulling 16-hour work days.”
Point Electronics accepts an abundance of mail-in orders and offers a wide variety of repair services. “We do everything from gaming console repairs to stereos and two-way radio communication equipment,” said Micheloni. “I always preferred older analog or RF equipment myself, and that’s what I primarily try to focus on here, but of course I work on newer things as well.”
For the repair charge, there is typically a flat fee. The cost for repairing stereo equipment, radio, or television is around $50 per hour, and home console repairs generally cost anywhere from $30 to $120, depending on what is needed.

Micheloni advocates the importance of having repairs done professionally at a shop such as his, rather than attempted at home. “With the modern era of the internet, a lot of people are used to going to YouTube or a forum to try to troubleshoot issues on their own, and it’s not always that direct of a fix,” said Micheloni. “There are so many variables, and often times the issue could be caused by many different things.”
Long term, Micheloni aims to stay in his current location in Stevens Point and hire a few more people to train as technicians and teach the nuances of older, analog equipment. “Eventually, we also want to expand to other locations across Wisconsin,” said Micheloni. “That’s the hope, because it’s such a dying thing.”
Point Electronics will be having its grand opening event on August 29. “The doors will be wide open, I’ll have a couple of family members here, some grill-out food, and I might have 97.9 WSPT with their road show here to broadcast for the day,” said Micheloni.
