Emanuel Lutheran begins renovation

Posted

Emanuel Lutheran Church’s renovation project is progressing smoothly and will be completed in December of this year.

Plans for renovation of the New London church began in 2019 when Emanuel celebrated its 125th anniversary of ministry and recognized the need to update and refurbish its 100-year-old historic sanctuary.

After years of planning, construction began in April 2024.

The sanctuary renovation, led by Miron Construction and Groth Design Group and financed through community partner Wolf River Community Bank, focuses on enhancing the building’s beauty and use.

Structural upgrades, improvements to HVAC and electrical systems, and aesthetic updates are being made.
This includes new flooring, seating, lighting, chancel furnishings, and custom paint to refresh the space while honoring its history and architecture.

Families will enjoy a new nursery added at the rear of the sanctuary.
Worship music will be enhanced with the improved acoustics and a new pipe organ, scheduled to be installed in 2025.
In addition to the sanctuary renovation, Emanuel’s multipurpose education space in the basement of the church has also been reimagined, providing a modern, flexible environment for youth activities, Bible
studies, and community events.

The updated dining hall and kitchen will better serve large gatherings, providing space for meals and fellowship.

“God has blessed our congregation for more than a century, and we are looking forward to his blessings for a century to come,” said Rev. Mark Tiefel, lead pastor at Emanuel, “We are preparing to carry forward his mission with renewed strength. We are excited to welcome our community to these newly renovated spaces.”

“We are deeply grateful for the support of our members, hundreds of volunteers, and the skilled professionals from Miron Construction. This project has been a labor of love, driven by our desire to create spaces that glorify God and serve our community, family, and friends,” said Dean Steingraber, project chair.

The community is invited to a dedication and open house from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7. The open house will include tours of the space, refreshments, and presentations by project leaders at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Dedicatory worship services will be held at 5:25 p.m. Saturday, and 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 7-8.
