Deputies found a loaded gun when they stopped the car of a wanted felon.
Lew A. Brown, 52, Milwaukee, is charged with possession of a firearm, felony bail jumping, obstructing an officer, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
On Friday, Nov. 17, Deputy Dan Lewinski was advised of a 911 report of an erratic green Chevy Tahoe going westbound on U.S. Highway 10 near County Trunk A in Waupaca.
Lewinski caught up with the Tahoe on U.S. 10 west of County Trunk Q.
Lewinski reported seeing the vehicle drift back and forth between the centerline and the fog line. He made a traffic stop.
The driver said he did not have a driver’s license, but gave Lewinski a copy of a citation from Mississippi that identified him as Lew Brown.
According to the criminal complaint, Brown denied having any prior contact with police and said he lived in Plover.
A records check indicated that Brown had posted a $5,000 cash bond on March 24 in Winnebago County where he faced charges of possession of amphetamine with intent to deliver, possession of amphetamine and possession of marijuana.
Brown’s bond was forfeited when he failed to appear in court on Nov. 10 and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Brown was convicted in Milwaukee County of felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a short-barreled shotgun and sentenced to four years in prison on Feb. 21, 2006.
Waupaca County Deputy James Santiago, who arrived at the scene to assist, found a .38-caliber revolver loaded with hollow-point bullets, 2.39 grams of marijuana, a suspected pot pipe with burnt residue and seven cell phones in Brown’s vehicle.
Brown currently remains in custody on a $15,000 cash bond.
