Jack R. Gunderson, age 88, of Waupaca, passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2025. He was born on April 25, 1936 to Thomas P. Gunderson and Marjorie (Pope) Gunderson. He was raised on a farm located on the Crystal River in Wisconsin.
He was always a hard worker. In his early years, at the age of 14, he delivered ice for the family ice business. His father died in 1955 and he took over the business until the early 1960’s when railroad cars became refrigerated.
In January 1956, Jack was united in marriage to Marietta Hannah in Chicago, IL. They were married for over 15 years.
Jack worked in construction for many years, working away from home for over 30 years at Dulles Airport in Washington DC. He retired in September of 2019 at the age of 84, when he had cancer surgery.
He was a unique individual with a big heart and a twinkle in his eye. Everyone that knew him had a story about the fun times they had together.
He is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Jeanne and Lee Lind, Waupaca; grandsons, Zachariah Lind, Menasha and Lucas Lind, Fremont; sister-in-law, Lori Gunderson, Waupaca; niece, Kara (RJ) Gross, Neenah; nephew, Tom Gunderson, Waupaca; and special friend, Margaret Travicke.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Larry Gunderson; and nephew, Jay Ross.
A memorial gathering will be held from 5 - 7 p.m. Friday, February 21, 2025 at the Maple Crest Funeral Home. A time to share a story about Jack will begin at 7 p.m.
