Beer garden construction delayed

NEW LONDON – The completed construction of a beer garden that is planned to be constructed by Der Wolf Garden LLC at the intersection of Wolf River Avenue and Smith Street has been delayed from Dec. 31, 2025 to July 1, 2026.
At the May 27 New London Economic Development Committee, the committee recommended that the New London Common Council approve the change in timeline for the construction of the beer garden.
At the committee meeting, Kim Chonos, of Der Wolf Garden LLC, told the committee that all the paperwork is signed with the contractor, and almost everything is completed on the financial side to complete the project.
“My father-in-law, who is our project manager, has been very big on this project, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer and he’s going through treatment,” Chonos said. “He is in the final stages of the treatment process. We were looking to be able to extend the project so that it would start closer to the end of August.”
Most of the outside of the building would be completed by the time there is frost in the fall, Chonos said. Electrical, plumbing, and other inside work would be worked on during the winter months. The beer garden would then be ready to open by spring.

“So, our timeline just got pushed back a little bit, with a little bit of a wrench thrown in,” Chonos said.
New London City Administrator Chad Hoerth said he had an amended developer’s agreement drawn up for the property, which was approved by New London City Attorney Keith Steckbauer. Hoerth said the completion of the construction in the original developer’s agreement was for Dec. 31, 2025. The amended developer’s agreement would change that date to July 1, 2026.
The amended developer’s agreement would also state that construction would begin by Dec. 31, 2025.
