Lemmenes, David

Posted

David Andrew Lemmenes, age 74, passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at home due to gallbladder cancer.

He was born October 5, 1949, a son of Elton and Ann Lemmenes. David attended the Brandon school system and received an excellent education through the school and also the local community. He continued his studies and received his bachelor’s degree from UW-Milwaukee and his master’s degree from UW-Whitewater. He used that education to teach in the Clintonville Public School System until his retirement.

David was active in the Navarino Nature Center and served on its board of directors. Because of his involvement with the nature center, he received an award for outstanding performance in natural resource education from the Department of Natural Resources. David was also a Lion’s Club member and was privileged to have served as its president for a year.

In retirement, David settled in the Green Lake area which provided him with lots to do and also provided him with many new friends. He enjoyed spending time with family, (especially grandkids), socializing with friends and neighbors, and fondly remembered cross country road trips with life-long friends.

Throughout his life he was drawn to collecting unique and historical treasures and building spaces for his friends and family to enjoy. His projects included a dome house, a very loved playset, his grandchildren’s playhouse, decks, fences and many renovations. His daughter’s lake house with its split rail fence to contain the beautiful yard he made to watch his grandchildren play was his final project. He loved tending a garden, handing out vegetables and mowing everyone’s lawn. It was his way to let you know he cared.

He is survived by his daughter, Kathleen (Adam) Kuhlman and their children, Ava, Griffin, Chase and Elisabeth; son, Thom (Gennie) Lemmenes and their children, Jack and Max. David is also survived by his three brothers, Lance (Geri) Lemmenes and their children, Adam (Elizabeth), Erica (Ben), and Ali (Zach); Calvin (Karen) Lemmenes and their children, Ryan (Jill), Jennifer (Bob), and Andrea; his youngest brother, Paul; his dear friends, Susie Cassady and Donny Alvin, who were there for him every day through his fight with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Tim.
David has donated his body (his soul is in Heaven) to UW-Madison for medical research.

A memorial service will be held at the Terrace Shores Evangelical Free Church, W3278 Highway K of Markesan, on Saturday, September 7, at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Gary Zacharias will conduct the service. A luncheon will follow the service at the Turning Point Youth Center. All are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, donations to The David Lemmenes Memorial Fund are appreciated. The link is listed below. This fund will be used to provide ice cream and treats for all children at the Green Lake Chamber of Commerce Music in the Park on a Wednesday night next summer. One of his favorite things to do was to get the kids ice cream on a beautiful summer night.
