Man drowns in Lake Helen

TOWN OF ALBAN — On Aug. 26, at 3:15 in the afternoon, the Portage County Sheriff’s Office received a call of male in distress in the water on Lake Helen.
Reports indicate the male was kayaking and went under the surface of the water. Nearby citizens attempted to assist the male, but were ultimately unable to locate him.
Emergency responders located the male who was identified as Christopher A. Philipp, 42, of Rosholt. Lifesaving measures were attempted, but were unsuccessful and he was pronounced deceased. No foul play is suspect and the investigation remains ongoing.
