New exhibit at public museum

Posted

The New London Public Museum opened its new exhibit, “Life in New London: Photos from the Plyoneer,” on Nov. 25.

Visitors can eplore a treasure trove of images from everyday life in New London during the 1940s through ‘50s.

The American Plywood Company started business in 1919 in New London. The company gained a reputation for high quality plywood products and houses.

In 1945, Harvey LaChapelle started a company newsletter, The Plyoneer. Newsletter photographer Henry Heinrich took over as editor in 1953.

After the plant closed Henry donated over 700 negatives to the museum. The Friends of the New London Public Museum sponsored the digitization of the negatives. This exhibit features some of those photographs.

Discover something new at the New London Public Museum. Enjoy exhibits about local history, Native American culture and natural history, or discover even more using the resources in the museum’s research center.
