New London Boys Basketball Preview

Posted

The New London Bulldogs are in a position to have their third consecutive winning season after making a run to the sectional final in 2022-2023 and finishing the 2023-2024 season 16-9 and 10-4 in the Bay, which tied them with West De Pere for second in the conference and a trip to the regional final.

It will be a tough climb without Jonah Schlueter, who was First-Team All-Bay a season ago. Schlueter averaged 12.5 points and 6.6 rebounds and led the conference with 6.6 assists. Also missing after graduation is Bay Conference Honorable Mention Paul Vuillaume, who contributed 10.9 points per game for the Bulldogs.

Zach Molnar is in his fourth season as the head coach of the Bulldogs.
Coach Molnar on how to replace the production from Schlueter and Vuillaume, “It’s going to be by committee, they did so much for our team. So we can’t just replace them,” Coach Molnar went on to say, “We have Brett Marquardt and Joseph (Daly) will help with the ball handling duties, it will be a little bit by committee there.”

The Bulldogs will be led by junior Joseph Daly, a second-team All-Bay conference selection a season ago who led the team in scoring with 15.5 points per game. Daly, who stands at 6 feet and 6 inches tall, can play in the paint, where he led the Bulldogs with 7.2 rebounds, and can stretch the floor with his outside shooting, averaging nearly 40 percent from three-point distance (.398).

“His work ethic is the highest since I’ve been here. He has a strong work ethic, he’s a gym rat, “Coach Molnar said of Daly, “We’re also looking for him to step up on the leadership end and be more of a vocal leader, something that he hasn’t always been comfortable with in the past, but he has shown signs, and we’re going to need that this year.”

The Bulldogs will begin their season on Nov. 29 in Mosinee at the Mosinee Thanksgiving tournament.
