Polish Eagle Brau returns

The Portage County Historical Society is collaborating with District One Brewing to bring a piece of local history back to life.

District One will released Polish Eagle Brau, a pre-Prohibition lager inspired by the historic Polish Brewing Company of Stevens Point, on Oct. 30.

Founded in 1907 by a group of Polish tavern keepers, the Polish Brewing Company aimed to combat a local monopoly in the brewing industry by offering affordable beer alternatives.

Although short-lived, closing its doors in 1917 due to numerous factors, including the impending years of Prohibition, the brewery left a lasting legacy in Stevens Point’s brewing history.

One of its flagship brews, White Eagle Brau, is being resurrected in this modern release under the name Polish Eagle Brau.

The beer has been meticulously recreated using historically accurate ingredients and a grain bill true to the pre-Prohibition style, offering modern beer enthusiasts a taste of history.

“We are excited to partner with District One Brewing to honor Stevens Point’s vibrant brewing past,” said John Harry, president of the historical society. “Polish Eagle Brau is a tribute to the innovative spirit of the Polish immigrant community and their efforts to forge a new identity in business and industry in the early 20th century.”
