The Stevens Point Police Department notified residents that a sex offender was released into the community on Sept. 10.
Cody J. Patterson, 30, has multiple convictions related to sex crimes.
In July 2010, Patterson invited two 13-year-old girls to his neighbor’s garage, where he gave them marijuana and water possibly laced with a “date rape” drug. He then engaged in intercourse with one of the girls “despite her repeatdly telling him no,” according to the police notice.
On Feb. 23, 2011, Patterson was convicted in Adams County of felony child abuse and placed on three years of probation with six months in jail.
While on probation, Patterson was accused of having sex with a 15-year-old girl on Oct. 19, 2011. His probation on the first offense was revoked on March 2, 2012.
On Oct. 29, 2012, Patterson was convicted in Adams County of second-degree sexual assault of a child and sentenced to two years in prison and three years of extended supervision concurrent to his prior sentence.
While incarcerated in 2014, Patterson mailed sexually explicit letters to a teenaged girl.
“He asked her sexual questions and detailed his sexual fantasies with her,” according to Stevens Point police.
After he was convicted in Portage County of exposing a child to harmful descriptions, Patterson was sentenced to three years in prison and two years of extended supervision on June 2, 2015.
On Sept. 8, 2020, Patterson was released on extended supervision.
He returned to prison on Oct. 18, 2021, after his extended release was revoked.
Patterson was released again on July 5, 2022.
He was sentenced in Portage County to 180 days in jail on June 21, 2024, after being convicted for possession of methamphetamine.
Conditions of Patterson’s Sept. 10 release in clude supervision by the state Department of Corrections and lifetime GPS monitoring.
He is also prohibited from having any unsupervised contact with minors and no contact with the victims.
