Schmidt, Elroy James

Elroy James Schmidt, age 60, passed away on May 8, 2024, in Clintonville.

He was born on April 5, 1964, in Shawano, to the late Clarence and Verniece (Zwieg) Schmidt of Bonduel. Elroy was raised on the family farm. He attended St. Paul Lutheran Grade School and graduated from Bonduel High School in 1983. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bonduel. He helped on the farm and worked at Lakeland Industries in Shawano for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and weekend trips to his sister’s cottage up north. Elroy also enjoyed listening to polka and country music, especially Johnny Cash and Elvis, and a trip to Branson, Missouri.

Elroy is survived by: four sisters, Bev Peters, of Kaukauna, Barbara (Leon) Pietz, of Appleton, Berniece (Denis) Shepard, of Black Creek, Brenda (Bruce) Westfahl, of Clintonville; one brother, Earl (Jean Romack) Schmidt, of Shawano; his nieces and nephews, Brian (Jodie) Peters, of Wausau, Laurie (John) Suennen, of Crivitz, Ryan (Autumn Mathis) Pietz, of Oshkosh, Jennifer Hubner, of Neenah, Samantha Shepard, Bridget Shepard, and Amanda (Corbin Stineman) Shepard of Black Creek; his great-nieces and great-nephews, John and Landon Suennen, Autumn, Audryanna and Kally Pietz, and Mason Hubner. He is further survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He is preceded in death by: his parents, grandparents, three brothers Wallace, Willard, and Edward; and a sister-in-law Mary Ann Schmidt.

A funeral service for Elroy will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bonduel on Monday, May 13, 2024, at 11:00 am with Pastor Mark Palmer officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am on Monday and continue until the time of service. Burial will be held at the church cemetery. Swedberg-Wendt Funeral Home is assisting the family with services.

The family would like to thank all those who worked with Elroy at Lakeland Industries. Also, a special thank you to the staff and caregivers who cared for Elroy while at the Pines. The family would also like to thank the Heartland Hospice for Elroy’s care in his final days. Thank you to Pastor Palmer and Pastor Wildauer for their comforting words in Elroy’s final days.

Elroy, we all love you and will miss you. Say “Hi” to Mom and Dad for us. Rest in peace dear brother, hugs and kisses.
